$32,750 in grants funds available to area organizations

Area non-profits and charitable organizations are eligible to apply for funds from a pool of $32,750 that is being made available through the Benson Area Community Foundation, the Dr. R. Galen Hanson Donor-Advised Fund and the Robert Sonsteng Donor-Advised Fund.
The grant monies must be used to promote education; quality of life; arts and humanities; recreation; community parks; the environment; and the general improvement in the greater Benson area.
Applications must specify how grant award funds will help the organization applying improve the community at large. Organizations must also be a non-profit charitable organization designated as a 501c3 by the Internal Revenue Service or have a secure fiscal agent.
The grant application submission deadline is May 31. It is anticipated that grant award decisions and notification to award recipients will be made on June 9.
All three entities are non-profit charities that attract and administer charitable funds for the benefit of residents in the geographic area of Benson, Clontarf, Danvers, DeGraff and Swift Falls – the area encompassed by School District 777. All three entities are affiliates of the Southwest Initiative Foundation based in Hutchinson. Since 2005, approximately $363,700 in grant money has been awarded to local organizations.
“The boards of these three entities are in a position of providing grant monies on a competitive basis, similar to what has taken place in the past” said Laree Breen, President of the Benson Area Community Foundation.
A simplified on-line grant application needs to be completed electronically. The application can be found at the following URL: “”.
It is anticipated that additional grant making will also take place in the fall, Don Wilcox, president of the Dr. R. Galen Hanson Donor-Advised Fund and the Robert Sonsteng Donor-Advised Fund said.
The foundations make grant awards twice annually.
