90th annual Kid Day set for July 15-18

After taking a year off in 2020 due to COVID-19, the Benson community is set to celebrate its 90th annual Kid Day, Saturday and Sunday, July 17-18 with a number of activities also taking place in the days leading up to Kid Day weekend.  The theme of this year’s Kid Day is “Hometown Fun” and the featured event of Kid Day, the Kid Day Parade, is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, July 17.

•  The Kid Day Medallion Hunt is set to begin Monday, July 12 and continue each day through Friday, July 16, or until the Medallion is found.  The clues will be available daily on the front door of the Library, on KSCR from 7-9 a.m. each day, and on the Benson Kid Day Facebook page.  The top prize for the youth who finds the Kid Day Medallion is $100.

•  Krazy Daze in Benson is set to take place Thursday, July 15, and local businesses will be offering sidewalk sales and special offers.  Look for ads in upcoming Monitor-News editions for great Krazy Daze deals.  Market Days/Craft vendors will also be set up in the Railroad Park from 8-11 a.m., Thursday, July 15.

Also on Thursday, July 15, a Mayor’s Mingle McKinney’s Fundraiser to Beautify Benson is set for the night at McKinney’s.  Social hour is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m, followed by a dinner at 7:30 p.m., Nashville singers, Jeremy McComb and Rick Huckaby, from 8-11 p.m., and a silent auction from 6:30-8 p.m.  Tickets are available at Breen’s and the Benson City Office.

The next day, Friday, July 16 will be a night of music as Patrick’s Bar and Grill will also be hosting the band, “Dana and the Bottle Rockets” for a street dance from 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m., and the Performing Arts Center will play host to a Hometown Showcase of Music to celebrate the grand opening of the PAC starting at 7 p.m, featuring Lori Dokken and the Blues Brothers.  The cost is $5...
