While recent events have resulted in fewer opportunities to socialize, visit entertainment venues, or travel, now may be the perfect time to get a library card! A Reedsburg Public Library card is easily obtained in minutes by visiting the library’s main desk and presenting photo identification that has a current address. The library’s social distancing and mask requirements, as well as plexiglass shields, ensure a safe experience. Once obtained, the library card becomes a passport to a number of experiences both entertaining and educational.

Now may be the perfect time to investigate a new hobby or interest, beginning with the thousands of titles in the library’s nonfiction area. A plethora of books on gardening, woodworking, landscaping, cooking, and crafts such as quilting, crocheting, and knitting have been acquired through the years. Library staff will be happy to show customers where to locate these titles, or can gather some books for a scheduled curbside pickup.

Now may be the perfect time to read that book you always intended to read, but never got around to! Is there a classic that you have vowed to read? Do you want to read about Hamilton after seeing the musical? Do you think you should read a Pulitzer Prize winner? Do you want to try a graphic novel? Librarians can help you find these items.

Now may be the perfect time to explore books in different formats. Many people enjoy audiobooks which allow them to multitask. Reedsburg Public Library owns thousands of titles on CD or digital audio player (mp3) format. Walkers enjoy the small digital audio players as they can easily be tucked in a pocket while exercising. Perhaps you can listen to an audiobook while working on your new hobby!

Now may also be the perfect time to learn how to download a title to a mobile device. With a library card there is no need to subscribe to, or buy, digital books online. Reedsburg Public Library’s two platforms, Wisconsin’s Digital Library and Hoopla, provide access to thousands of titles that can be downloaded to a computer browser, tablet or phone. E-books, audio books, graphic novels and movies are available. The electronic titles, like physical library books, are free, but checked out for a limited period, before they must be “returned.”

Library staff are happy to explain the digital checkout process, either in person or over the phone.

Now may be the perfect time for research. A Reedsburg Public Library card grants at home access to the many databases listed under Research Resources on the library’s homepage (www.reedsburglibrary.org). Explore your family history using Ancestry or HeritageQuest. Research a prospective purchase using Consumer Reports online.

Now is the time! For questions about getting a library card, or any library program or service, call the library at 768-READ (7323).
