BHS looking for compromise with KMS on sports costs

For over a year now, representatives of the Benson and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (KMS) school boards have been discussing a financial adjustment to the sports cooperative between the two districts. They might be getting a little closer to a solution.

Benson was asking for an additional $34,500 contribution from KMS to help cover the costs of  maintaining facilities at BHS. While it has been holding fast on paying no additional funds beyond its sports participation fee over the past months, last week KMS did offer to pay an additional $15,000 annually.

“Benson’s school board would really like to continue the relationship and the camaraderie that has been built between the two schools,” Benson schools Supt. Dennis Laumeyer said at the board of education’s meeting Monday, Nov. 9. “It has worked well for most of the past 30 years, but things have changed...”
