The Adams-Friendship Football Team is off to an 0-1 start to the 2020 season after losing at Berlin 32-6 on Friday night. However, the team and the coaching staff are feeling pretty good about what they can do moving forward. “Throughout the game we made some mistakes which Berlin capitalized on.  Berlin is a big physical team and we didn’t back down from their physicality. I was impressed with the heart and effort the team gave during the game Friday night,” said Head Coach Nick Stormoen.

The Indians took the ball on their first possession and easily moved down the field with a powerful running game and capitalized on a two yard touchdown run by Joey Femali who would lead all rushers with 78 yards on just 12 carries. After stopping the Green Devils again Berlin took the ball on a short field and threw the ball for a 35 yard touchdown from Landon Sobieski to Keean Hermanson for a 13-0 lead. The Green Devils started to move the ball on their 3rd possession, but mistakes and penalties stalled the drive. Berlin again connected on a long pass, this time a 50 yard touchdown from Sobieski to Tyler Kwidzinski and the score was 19-0.

The Green Devils again began to move the ball before the half. Then what looked like a promising pass and catch for a 14 yard gain turned into a fumble and long return for Berlin. The Indians would capitalize on the turnover for another touchdown throw from Sobieski to Hermanson and stake a 26-0 halftime lead. “At the half the score was 26 -0 and didn’t really reflect the nature and flow of the game. We fumbled before half and that allowed them to distort the score,” said Stormoen.

On their opening possession of the second half the Green Devils put their best drive of the night together and finished it with a nice, 10 yard touchdown pass from Chrystain Quinnell to Keyvon Holloway. Holloway would finish with 5 catches for 81 yards leading all pass catchers. Berlin would be held scoreless during the entire third quarter. However, the Indians would punch in the final score of the night when Sobieski would carry it in himself for a 5 yard score and a 32-6 victory. The Indians would salt away the game in the 4th quarter with a running game that averaged 6.2 yards a carry for the night.

“At the half we made some adjustments on O and D. To begin the 2nd half we stopped them and went in to score. After that, we held them again and were driving inside their 20 when penalties put us behind the sticks and our drive stalled,” stated Stormoen. Defensively, the Green Devils were led by Kyle Wiseman who had 7 total tackles and Anthony Kujawa. Stormoen also pointed out Jordan Jossart for being physical defensively and taking on blockers.

Offensively, the Green Devils missed on a few opportunities that one would expect to see at times in the first game of the season. Stormoen was happy with some of the execution later in the game. “On offense Christian Quinnell settled down after the 1st quarter and threw some really nice balls while under pressure. Keyvon Holloway had a good game at wide receiver and will be a player that other teams will begin to key on more and more. I was impressed with Jordan Jossart running the ball from the QB spot as well,” finished the Head Coach.

Adams-Friendship heads into conference play on Friday when they travel to Wisconsin Dells for a matchup of rivals. Wisconsin Dells comes into the game 1-0 after beating Westfield 36-0.
