Dokken to perform during Benson Kid Day
Lori Dokken to perform to celebrate Kid Day and grand opening of the new BHS Performing Arts Center
Though the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over the growing number of people who have been getting vaccinated is making community celebrations possible again – Benson’s Kid Day could be one of them.
Benson’s 90th Kid Day celebration was called off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now plans are underway for the 2021 Kid Day.
“Exciting things are being planned for the 2021 Kid Day celebration set for July 16 to 18,” Committee Member Shelly Mikkelson said.
The committee, chaired by Roger Ebnet, is moving forward with plans for this year’s celebration: “Hometown Fun – Kid Day ‘21.”
One big addition to the weekend’s events is a grand opening celebration for Benson’s new Performing Arts Center, “Hometown Showcase,” which will feature some of Benson’s finest musicians, she said. “Whether it be a vocal solo or ensemble from a past musical, a piano selection, or an instrumental solo or ensemble, the stage is yours,” Mikkelson said.
Headlining this showcase is Benson High School graduate Lori Dokken, a sought-after accompanist and successful concert producer, educator, vocal coach, arranger, and vocalist.
Over the past four decades, Dokken has performed at every major venue in the Twin Cities from the Dakota Jazz Club to the Guthrie Theater to the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.
“This is a community event you won’t want to miss,” Mikkelson, a music teacher in Benson Public Schools, said. “It is an event that gives our alumni the chance to perform in our state-of-the-art venue and provides our community with an evening of great entertainment.”
Performances for the Hometown Showcase will be Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17, at 7 pm in the Performing Arts Center. More ticket information will be released at a later date.
Information for interested alumni will be posted on several social media <img src="/sites and various community and school web<img src="/sites.
