Local fire departments, social agencies benefit from TACU COVID-19 grant

Tomah Area Credit Union was awarded a $20,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant.
TACU divided the money between five local fire departments and two agencies on the front lines to help with homelessness and domestic violence in Monroe County.
The fire departments divided $15,000 and $5,000 was divided between Brighter Tomorrow and Family Promise of Monroe County. The grant was awarded to to assist local organizations as they seek to help people before, during and after the coronavirus pandemic. Eight local beneficiaries were selected to each receive $2,500 to support the work they do within Tomah and the surrounding areas.
The Tomah, Cutler, Camp Douglas, Town of Lincoln, Oakdale Area Fire Association and LaGrange Fire Station received a total of $15,000 to be used to help purchase Air Packs, a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and fire simulation training equipment. All of which will help them become more effective and safer while fighting future fires.
“We will be using these funds to purchase a fire simulation training package which will be used to help our firefighters gain knowledge in difficult situations. Training is so important as our lives depend on it. We are just blown away by the generosity of TACU,” said Tim Adler, Tomah Fire Chief.
TACU also selected Brighter Tomorrows to receive $2,500 as they advocate to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault within our community. Throughout the pandemic, Brighter Tomorrows has seen an uptick in calls to their 24-hour Crisis Line, while seeing a decrease in funding. 
TACU’s donation will be used to provide basic needs to women, men and children in Monroe County, such as rent, food and transportation.
Family Promise of Monroe County received the remaining $2,500 as they fight homelessness and help low-income families achieve sustainable independence. Family Promise provides accommodations, food, transportation and even educational resources for professional development.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago approved funding for $20,000 COVID-19 Relief Grants for each of its member institutions in Wisconsin and Illinois. The grants are to provide financial support to those affected by the COVID-19 crisis within our community.
