Stuessel named Kiwanis Student of the Month
Student of the Month parents Julie and Tim Stuessel hardly needed an introduction when their daughter Kennedy received the January Kiwanis SOM Award at the Club’s ZOOM meeting Tuesday noon, Feb. 16. Their son and a nephew were earlier Sparta High School SOM recipients.
Kennedy Stuessel’s record for SHS academic excellence was matched by her varsity level performance in SHS volley ball, basketball and softball. That prompted Stuessel’s SOM nominator, SHS English teacher Julia Ender, to describe her as “bright, hard-working, ‘coachable’, a go-getter in class, not afraid to go after what she wants, aggressive but respectful.”
Kennedy said grades were important to her. She said, “If I worked hard I could do it. Online school taught me that I have to ask questions over email, to make sure I understand. Like team sports, you can rely on others. You’re never alone.” Steussel admires her classroom teacher Julie Ender. “She wants to know her kids. She sees the good in people and she wants to see them excel.”
Stuessel said she plans to attend UW-Eau Claire where her field of studies will reflect her experience with kids at Sparta’s Park and Rec and her interest in science.
The Kiwanis Club of Sparta is part of Kiwanis International, a service club focussed on improving the lives of young people.
