MIDDLEBURY — Fifth- and sixth-graders from Ripton, Salisbury, Cornwall and Shoreham will take to the Town Hall Theater stage Thursday night to perform Shakespeare's Henry IV — battling with broadswords and singing rock anthems they wrote themselves. It's all part of an innovative literacy curriculum called Courageous Stage.
Earlier this year Middlebury Underground spent time with the kids and educators to produce this video about the program.
The Town Hall Theater’s Education team, namely Courageous Stage’s Lindsay Pontius, Craig Maravich and their wonderful team of artists and educators did an incredible and moving job with about 90 local fifth and sixth graders from four different elementary schools as the kids performed “Henry IV, Part I” last Thursday evening. MIDDLEBURY — More than a half-dozen Mary Hogan Elementary School sixth-graders will magically transform into a variety of colorful, whimsical creatures as part of the Opera Company of Middlebury’s staging of the much-celebrated “The Magic Flute” at the Town Hall Theater this Thursday through Saturday.
It will indeed be a string of creative “firsts” for the children. The Magic Flute will mark their debuts in an opera. And it will be the first time they will have designed their own attire for an on-stage performance.
